The movement of people from villages to cities for work can cause serious problems in both places. What are the serious problems associated with this? What measures can be taken to solve these problems?
Due to globalization and urbanization, the movement of people from rural to urban areas have increased. Some are of the view that this causes some major problems both in villages and cities. This essay shall intend to discuss the problems and also some ways to deal with them.
First and foremost, the major problem in urban areas is the decreasing availability of land. As more and more people are migrating to the cities, the area per square is seeing a major downfall. For example, Mumbai is welcoming almost 1 million people every year, due to which there is a scarcity of land as well as natural resources like water. In addition, to this, the traffic congestion on the roads is also increasing rapidly because of the addition of more vehicles. This causes pollution, mainly air and noise, which is the biggest threat to our environment as well as to our health.
Secondly, rural areas are also suffering from this mainly in their agriculture practices because the major source of income in this area is farming, but due to this movement, they are facing a shortage of manual labour. This practice is also directly affecting the revenue of the country, as less outcome is coming from agriculture. For example, Kerala is facing a shortage of rice and other cereals due to its people moving more towards the city for better facilities which are, however, not the same as in the past. Furthermore, due to fewer educational facilities, people are moving, because everyone wants their child to get the best education, which is a lack in the countryside.
The solutions to these problems are not very tough. Growth is not a bad thing, but unplanned growth is. So, it is the responsibility of the government to practically design everything. Government should allocate the land properly. Also, in addition to this, the transport facilities should be increased between the cities and villages. More direct linkages which are not time-consuming should be made so that people only commute for their jobs. With this, the agriculture sector will also not suffer, because the public will indulge themselves more in it if they stay at their places only.
In conclusion, urbanization is a good thing but with the proper management with the responsibility of the government. The problems can be easily eradicated if proper solutions are implemented and followed.
