Many Parents Are Interested in Homeschooling and the Trend Is Gaining Popularity

In some countries, many parents are interested in homeschooling, and the trend is gaining popularity. Do you think that the advantages of this outweigh the disadvantages?

A trend of providing education to young children at home without enrolling in the school has gained immense popularity among parents over the last few decades. While there is an obvious benefit of homeschooling in terms of individual attention to a child, I strongly believe that the potential drawbacks of this development far outweigh the benefits and will be explained further in the forthcoming paragraphs with credible examples.

To commence with, it is irrefutable that a child studying at home can get personal attention from the parents, that too in his comfortable surroundings. To be precise, parents can adopt a flexible schedule of learning which can be tailor-made as per the learner’s pace. This approach is likely to benefit immensely in the case of students, for instance, who are finding it difficult to cope in a class of 30 pupils on an average. Hence, it is inferred that the benefits of homeschooling cannot be overlooked.

Nevertheless, I would argue that the concept of training young children in the home’s atmosphere would likely do more harm than good. At first, conventional schools have a well-structured curriculum to impart knowledge to young minds. They have experts in pedagogy facilitating the learning process to make the best out of it. Another striking benefit of enrolling in an academic institution is that unlike at home, by collaborating with peers and professionals in school, children are likely to develop attitudes and personality traits such as adaptability, resilience, and taking the initiative, which tends to benefit them in the longer run. To exemplify, participation in various school activities such as sports, arts, music boost up the student’s confidence, creativity, and ability to work in a team.

To recapitulate, I pen down stating that, even though being homeschooled has a definite advantage of receiving special attention for the students, I strongly believe the associated cons transcend the pros in attaining holistic development.
