Firstly, London underground system opened in 1863, which covered 394 km and carried 775 million passengers. Furthermore, the system opened in 1900 in Paris and in 1927 in Tokyo; these both cover less than 200 km long while they have more annual passengers, such as 1191 million in Paris and 927 million in Tokyo.

Turning to the remaining categories, Kyoto and Los Angeles started in 1981 and 2001 respectively. Both have the shortest route, around 11 and 20 km and carry less than 50 million passengers. Moreover, Washington Dc started in 1976, and it goes for 126 km along with 144 million passengers.
